The NHS recommends consumption of no more than 4 units in any one day. This is great but the problem is that in British pubs and bars there is often no mention of units. It may be however be easier to find the alcohol %. For example, on the face of the beer pump.
If you know the alcohol % there is though a very quick way of calculating the amount of units as shown below. In bars and pubs alcohol is always served in standard units. For example, Wine will typically be 125ml for a small glass, 175ml for a medium and 250ml for a large.
For example, a pint of 4% beer. 4 x 568 / 1000 = 2.2 units
